Vijay Padmanabhan leads Google’s strategic response team combating violent extremism and hate speech. His team identifies innovative, data-driven solutions to protect users from the threat of online radicalization. He has served in numerous roles with Google Trust & Safety during his 4 years with the company, including serving as policy advisor for Google Ads, Google Maps & G Suite. Prior to joining Google, Vijay taught international human rights and humanitarian law at Vanderbilt University. He was also a visiting scholar at the NYU Stern Center for Business and Human Rights. Vijay spent 5 years as an attorney-advisor at the US Department of State, working primarily on international legal issues related to the detention center at Guantanamo Bay.
