Defence Consultant Advisor in Emergency Medicine Research and Clinical Innovation, Royal Centre for Defence Medicine , and Joint Medical Group Secretary, COMEDS EMed Panel, NATO
Col Ian Gurney is the current Defence Consultant Advisor in Emergency Medicine and Secretary of the NATO Emergency Medicine Panel.  He chairs the Defence Major Incident and Mass Casualty Working Group. He is an active clinical Consultant in Emergency Medicine at Derriford Hospital in Plymouth where he is also EPRR lead.  He joined the Army in 1995 and has completed operational tours as an Emergency Physician in Iraq, Afghanistan and South Sudan and heads a cadre of over 100 UK Military Emergency Physicians.  In this talk he will discuss how Military Major Incident planners need to consider scenarios as diverse as a handful of casualties presenting to a small remote medical team through to thousands of casualties overwhelming a host nation infrastructure and how a single conceptual approach may no longer be fit for purpose
